About this experience

You’ll spend time with me inside a real working pen fattening operation and see the business as it actually runs.

Depending on what is happening during your visit, you may see cattle being selected, fed, monitored, treated, weighed or prepared for sale. I’ll take you through the pens, feeding setup and the systems I use to manage the animals and keep track of costs.

As we move around the operation, you can ask me about the real numbers behind the business — how much cattle cost to buy, feed expenses, veterinary costs, transport, working capital, selling prices, margins and the mistakes that can quickly reduce your profit.

I’ll also share how I find cattle, what I look for before buying, how I decide which animals have good fattening potential, how long I normally keep them and how I think about when and where to sell.

This is not a prepared lesson. You’ll be spending time alongside me in my real environment, seeing what is happening that day and asking questions as they naturally come up.

The aim is for you to leave with a realistic understanding of what running a pen fattening business actually looks like before you decide whether it is right for you.
